CHOCOWINITY — The fall 5K season kicks off with the sixth annual Unity Christian Academy Road Warrior 5K to be held on Oct. 3.

The race, which kicks off at 8 a.m., will be held at Haw Branch Church of Christ parking lot and is a Run the East sanctioned event, one that will be timed using electronic chip RFID technology. And for those unwilling to tackle the course, there will be other events available.

“The 5K will be an all-day event,” said Keri Sparks, a first-year Road Warrior board member. “We’re going to have the race, a car shows and barbeque plates and hot dogs … The money will benefit Unity for supplies, things that we need throughout the year, things we do for teachers.”

The top three male and female competitors in each age division will receive medals and Fun Run medals will be given out to all children who complete the mile race.

Registration for the Road Warrior 5K is $30, while the Fun Run, a shorter version of the race, is $20.

WASHINGTON VOLLEYBALL DROPS THIRD-STRAIGHT MATCH TO SW EDGECOMBE

PINETOPS — The Washington volleyball team lost its third-consecutive match on Thursday to Southwest Edgecombe (7-4, 1-1 EPC), 3-1.

The Pam Pack decisively took the first game, 25-16, before falling in the second (25-14), third (25-18) and fourth (25-15). Cougars’ senior Lillian House led all hitters with nine kills to go along with five aces.

With the loss, Washington drops to 3-8 (0-2 EPC) and will host Beddingfield (4-7, 0-2 EPC) on Tuesday.

 

NORTHSIDE VOLLEYBALL PUTS AWAY LEJEUNE

CAMP LEJEUNE — The Northside volleyball team won its third-straight Coastal Plains Conference match on Thursday over Lejeune (3-7, 2-3 CPC), 3-0.

The Panthers made quick work of the Devils Pups in the first game, 25-16, before taking the second game (25-22) and third game (25-21).

With the win, Northside improves to 5-3 (3-2 CPC) and will face county rival Southside on Tuesday.

 

SOUTHSIDE VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO PAMLICO COUNTY

CHOCOWINITY — The Southside volleyball team continued its Coastal Plains Conference struggles on Thursday, as Pamlico County secured a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-12) shutout on the road.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 3-7 (1-3 CPC) heading into Tuesday’s matchup with rival Northside.
