PotashCorp-Aurora (PCS Phosphate Company, Inc.) made a donation of $25,000 to the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department (AFVD) to support fire and rescue operations.
“This organization plays an essential role in the safety and protection of the Richland Township, and for our site as well,” said Mark Johnson, general manager of PotashCorp-Aurora. “We value this partnership and the professionalism and commitment, consistently demonstrated by AFVD. They share our core values of safety and community support; this donation will help support their mission in a very tangible way. We know these funds will be put to good use, for the protection of everyone they serve.”
According to Kevin Bonner, AVFD fire chief and a member of PCS’ Emergency Response Team, financial support helps improve response times.

“We’ve experienced budget cuts from several sources, these funds are of great benefit. Currently, we have to make tough decisions on what we can, and can’t do. This will enable us to acquire more tools and equipment to better serve Richland Township. We answer approximately 100 calls per year for fires, medical emergencies and mutual aid support with other area fire departments,” Bonner said. “I have been a volunteer here since 1995 and I realize the value of support from neighbors and friends. We are grateful to PCS for their confidence and for this significant gift.”
Bonner also serves as site manager for industrial and fire safety at PotashCorp-Aurora. He demonstrates a genuine passion for safety and protection in all facets of his life.
“We are grateful to Kevin and value his contributions to our site, and to AVFD. He represents both organizations well,” Johnson said. “Like many of his coworkers at PotashCorp, Kevin demonstrates true leadership at work and at home.”
