Eastern Elementary students learn about coconuts

EASTERN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COCONUT FUN: Eastern Elementary first-grade students in Heather Elliott's and Roxanne Beeman's first-grade classrooms look on as Mr. James Allen, school custodian, shares how to crack open a coconut. The students were learning vocabulary with the book, “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.” Mr. Allen shared with the children how he learned this by watching his parents at Christmas when he was a child. He is always willing to take time out of his busy schedule to enhance the students' educational experiences. The children got to experience touching and tasting coconut. They enjoyed researching the fruit and where and how it grows. They located tropical areas on the map where they would find coconut trees.
