Mr. Michael Lane Hopkins, age 52, a resident of 746 Old Pamlico Beach Road West, Belhaven, died Monday, October 5, 2015.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven, officiated by Rev. Dean Fulford. Burial will follow in Pamlico Beach Community Cemetery at Ryder Hill. Jody Hopkins, Josh Hopkins, Howard Sawyer, Georgie Hopkins, Ryan Hopkins and Howell Sparrow III will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Wilkins, Rodney Taylor and Robbie Hopkins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and other times at the home of his father and stepmother: Medford and Julia Hopkins, located at 387 Wrights Creek Road, Belhaven.
Michael was born in Beaufort County on October 27, 1962, son of Lee Medford Hopkins who survives and the late Shirley Jeanette Asby Hopkins. He attended John A. Wilkinson High School and was a self-employed commercial fisherman. Michael was an outdoorsman who loved nature and was an avid hunter who loved to fish, hunt and hard crab. He never met a stranger! He was a fishing partner to his nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. Michael was a member of Belhaven Pentecostal Holiness Church and a member of both Winsteadville and Grassy Point Hunting Clubs.
Surviving along with his father: Medford Hopkins of Pamlico Beach is a stepmother: Julia Guthrie Hopkins of Pamlico Beach; two brothers: Freddie Hopkins (Abbie) of Pamlico Beach and Montie Hopkins (Bridgette) of Pamlico Beach; nieces and nephews: Fredda Hopkins, Shirley Hopkins, LeAnn Respass, Noah Hopkins, Josh Hopkins (Kellie), Jody Hopkins (Sayra), Franky Voliva (Angel), Jayden Foster, Ava Voliva, Oden Hopkins, Morgan Hopkins, Katie Hopkins, Harrison Hopkins, Lexy Tate and Cody Foster; three stepchildren: Georgie Hopkins and Crystal Hopkins and Ryan Hopkins and his special companion and pet Wayne Wayne.
