Barbara Boyd Clement Gibbs passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 9, 2015.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Washington. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church parlor. Burial will be at the Main Street United Methodist Church Cemetery in Kernersville at a later date.
Mrs. Gibbs was born in Washington on July 30, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Charlie R. Boyd and Leona Mae Dixon Boyd. Mrs. Gibbs graduated from Washington High School in 1961. She was a retired secretary to the Dean of the School of Business at East Carolina University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Washington and the Pitt County Master Gardeners Program.
In her spare time, Mrs. Gibbs enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid reader. She was a member of the San Souci Book Club and the Monday Afternoon Bridge Club in Washington.
Mrs. Gibbs loved spending time with her many friends in Washington and Greenville.
Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her daughter, Katherine Clement of Winston-Salem, N.C.; her son, Jack R. “Jay” Clement II and his wife, Stephanie of Wilkesboro, N.C.; three brothers, Tillman G. Boyd and wife, Jean of Ringgold, VA, Glenn T. Boyd and wife, Carolyn of Fort Mill, S.C., Bobby R. Boyd and wife, Brenda of Winterville, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Jack R. Clement III and Grant Clement.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gibbs was preceded in death by her former husbands, Jack R. Clement and Milo G. Gibbs.
