To the Editor,

Again we have witnessed a shooting tragedy in Oregon, and our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones, due to this horrible and senseless killing.

Again the government is asking, “Why is this happening?” and “What do we need to do to stop this?” Their answer is gun control. The problem is too much governmental control. I’m speaking of governmental control in our society making decisions for individuals. Instead of people having the freedom to make decisions, the government steps in saying, “This is what you can do and cannot do.”

This is why we have separation of church and state; no more Bible-reading in schools, no more prayer to God in Jesus’ name at government meetings, no more displaying of the Ten Commandments, no more Christmas carols with Jesus’ name allowed on government property. We are having a national movement to remove any mention of God and Jesus Christ from our society. We have the freedom to kill the unborn (abortion). We have the freedom to desecrate marriage for gays, homosexuals and lesbians, and the courts are enforcing it. The result is a Godless society with no regards for God, His Word or Rule for our lives. When we have no God control, then we will eventually have gun control. ISIS is a prime example of this. We as a nation need to go back to obeying the commandments of God and not men.

May God have mercy on us.

Matthew 15:7-9 reminds us of our present when it says,”You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you when he said: ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’” And II Chronicles 7:14 encourages that we pray as a nation to repent: “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear form heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

God help us,

Wm. VanStaalduinen
