Published 6:36 pm Monday, October 26, 2015
The North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Rural Economic Division will host the first Public Workshops for the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and Dare County Range Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) on November 9, 10, and 12.
The Columbia workshop will be on November 12.
The workshops will provide an overview of the JLUS and compatibility factors that will be assessed through the JLUS planning study, and include an overview of the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and Dare County Range missions to better understand the military missions and the associated impacts on the project study area.
The JLUS will address compatibility planning in the northeast North Carolina region. The primary objective is to reduce conflicts between Seymour Johnson Air Force Base/Dare County Range and areas affected by operations while accommodating new growth and economic development, sustaining economic vitality, protecting public health and safety, and sustaining the operational missions of the base.
The JLUS will assess 25 compatibility factors, identify existing and potential issues, and develop strategies to address the issues. The compatibility factors include, but are not limited to: Coordination and Communication, Land Use, Noise/Vibration from overflight, Safety Zones, Environmental Impacts, Vertical Obstructions, Roadway Capacity, and Energy Development.
The Public Workshops will be provided in three locations focusing on each area for your convenience.
Goldsboro, Monday, November 9, 3-6 PM, 200 North Center Street.
Washington, Tuesday, November 10, 3-6 PM, 110 Gladden Street.
Columbia, Thursday, November 12, 3-6 PM, 205 South Ludington Drive.
In order to develop a study and recommendations that are responsive to local needs, input from the community is essential. The public is encouraged to join us at these workshops to learn more about the JLUS project and provide input on the issues to be addressed.
