Mr. Robert Earl Hedgepeth Sr., age 83, a resident of 4716 U.S. Hwy. 264 E., Greenville, N.C., died Friday, October 30, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, November 1, 2015 in the chapel at Paul Funeral Home in Washington, conducted by Rev. Charlie Asby. A private burial will be in the Pinewood Memorial Park in Greenville.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Jim Hedgepeth, Robbie Hedgepeth, Bradford Hedgepeth, Michael Gerard, Michael Norman, James Osbon and Billy Stocks.
Mr. Hedgepeth was born in Pitt County on July 16, 1932, son of the late Robert Hatten Hedgepeth and Amy Campbell Hedgepeth. Mr. Hedgepeth was a well-known auto mechanic, retiring from Smith Mills Pontiac/ Buick in Washington with 30 years of service. He also was a past member of the Washington Moose Lodge. In his spare time he loved to tinker on clocks and cars and watch NASCAR.
Mr. Hedgepeth married the former Myrtie Stancill Briley on December 30, 1985.
Surviving along with his wife, Myrtie Hedgepeth are two sons, Robert Hedgepeth and wife, Linda, James Hedgepeth and wife, Sandy; a daughter, Peggy Woolard and husband Randy; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Osbon and Margie Wainwright; brother-in-law, Joseph Wayne Stancill and three sisters-in-law, Lena Josephine Whley, Peggy Roberson and Ruth Jackson.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hedgepeth was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Jesse Hedgepeth; sister, Edna Mayo and infant sister, Ruby Bell Hedgepeth.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory, Washington.
