Register of Deeds quarterly report

First quarter activity in the Tyrrell County Register of Deeds office, if maintained through June 2016, will trail the previous fiscal year.

Land transfers are a leading indicator of the local economy.

Gene Reynolds, register of deeds, reported total deposits of $8,990 for July through September. Annualized, that would amount to $35,960. In the 12 months of the 2014-15 fiscal year deposits were $37,490. In 2013-14 the figure was $83,985, and in 2012-13 it was $53,161.

There were 38 transfers recorded in the first quarter. If the pace continues, 152 transfers will occur before June 30, 2016. In 2014-15 there were 163 transfers, 171 in 2013-14, and 226 in 2012-13.

Sales of revenue stamps on deeds were $3,848 for July through September, or an annualized total of $15,392. The figure for 2014-15 was $18,974, for 2013-14 was 61,022, and for 2012-13 was $29,893.

Total documents recorded in the first quarter were 153, for an annualized total of 612 compared to 530 for the previous year, 698 in 2013-14, and 702 in 2012-13.
