Gary Wayne Owens

Gary Wayne Owens, age 47, a resident of Tyler Street in Washington, died Thursday, November 12, 2015 at his home. Mr. Owens was born in Newport News, VA on June 15, 1968 to the late Donald Owens and Carolyn Anne Harris Owens who survives. He was married to the former Dawn Snyder on April 20, 2002, who survives.

He was a graduate of Warick High School in Newport News, VA and was employed with Suddenlink as a technician. He loved racing and especially racing go-carts, working with computers, baseball and science fiction.

Survivors in addition to his mother and wife are his three children, Lindsey Snyder of Washington, Crystal Owens of Newport News, VA and Mathew Owens of Washington; his grandchildren, Nevaeh Howerton, Trinity Howerton and Serenity Howerton. He is also survived by his step-grandmother, Melba Harris of Zebulon, NC and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, E.J. Harris and Bethel and Margie Owens.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Hillside Funeral Service with Rev. Ed Drew officiating. The family will receive friends at Hillside Funeral Service one hour prior to the service and other times at the home of his mother, 2469 Wharton Station Rd., Washington.

Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Shawn O’Neal, Josh Toler, Brian Steffen, Mathew Owens, Rob Acker and Donnie Harris will serve as pallbearers. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73120.
