JOHN COTTEN TAYLOE DRESS UP: As part of Red Ribbon Week at JCT, everyone was encouraged to dress up as his or her favorite character on Oct. 29. 04- JOHN COTTEN TAYLOE CHARACTER DAY: Students from John Cotten Tayloe dressed up as their favorite story characters as part of Red Ribbon Week. These students showed off their costumes from the books “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and the “Goosebumps” series.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit presented to John Cotten Tayloe’s third graders for Red Ribbon Week. Lt. Russell Davenport began the presentation by introducing the members of the Narcotics Unit. Educating the community about crime prevention helps Beaufort County officers do their jobs better. David Richards, narcotics investigator and K-9 handler, did a demonstration with Elza, showing students how accurate she is. Then Lt. Davenport introduced McGruff to the students. Since 1980, McGruff the Crime Dog has taught millions of people that crime prevention is everybody’s business and everyone can help “Take a Bite out of Crime.” JCT had Red Ribbon Week Oct. 26-30. The week’s activities included:

  • Monday – Students were given a bracelet to wear all week and decorated their doors. Tracy Arnold’s third-grade class won the door contest!
  • Tuesday – Everyone was encouraged to wear red and sign his or her name for Sidewalk Chalk Day.
  • Wednesday – Wear fun and/or mismatched socks for Sock IT to Drugs Day; wear your favorite college shirt day.
  • Thursday – Good Character Day – Everyone dressed up as his or her favorite story character.
  • Friday – School spirit day
