A salute to veterans and country

About 100 Tyrrell residents stood and gave prolonged applause as the Sound Side Missionary Baptist Church Community Choir concluded its musical presentation, “A Salute to Veterans and Country,” highlight of the Veterans Day ceremony in VanHorne Auditorium in Columbia.

The 22 members of the community choir were Tiffany Abel, Pat Bateman, Ann Brickhouse, Mackenzie Cole, Mike Cole, Leamon Cooper, Jessica Davenport, Tonya Davenport, Loretta Edmondson, Richard Edwards, Rena Deaver, Ernestine Hassell, Tim Hayes, Derek Hopkins, Elizabeth Hopkins, Susie Phelps, Bethlee Riddick, Hannah Rogers, Angie Sexton, Sharon Spruill, Cassie Waters, and Jonathan Williams.

Soloists were Angie Sexton, Cassie Waters and Jonathan Williams. A youth quintet – Noah Abel, Carter Boucher, Chesson Boucher, Darci Boucher and John Griffin Rogers –  sang two railroading songs.

Linda Clough was narrator, and voicing the words of historical persons from various locations in the audience were J.D. Clough, Walter Davenport, Gordon Deaver, and Joe Wynns.

On-stage performers were dressed in blue pants, white shirts, and alternating red or blue bandanas.

The choir was directed by Bernadine Crouch.

The annual ceremony was sponsored by American Legion Post 182.
