AHOSKIE — A subpar shooting night cost Pungo its second game of the Lt. Nick Brantley Tournament on Friday. Pungo shot just 33 percent from the floor in the game in a 68-59 loss.

Southampton Academy owned a small, 30-28 lead at halftime, but scored 19 in each of the final two periods to pull away.

Kellum Cahoon had a double-double and Will Respess scored 24 points in the losing effort. He was effective from long range with four three pointers. Cahoon scored a dozen and grabbed 10 rebounds. Respess and Logan Vanstaalduienn each had eight rebounds, too.

That loss marked just the second of the season for Pungo. The Raiders will look to build momentum Monday against the Pitt County Pacers before hosting conference foe Northeast Academy on Tuesday.

PINETOWN — Washington earned its first win of the season Friday at Northside, 60-45. The Pam Pack offense exploded with 19 points in the second quarter. Meanwhile, the defense held the Panthers to just six points in the second, which helped produce a 29-17 halftime lead.

The young Panther squad fared better in the second half. They were able to score 28, but couldn’t stop the Pam Pack offense. That, combined with the halftime deficit, made it tough to climb back in.

Washington hopes to string together consecutive wins when it travels to Chocowinity for another rivalry game with Southside. Northside will play at South Creek on Tuesday and gets another shot at the Pam Pack on Friday.
