A Washington man was arrested Sunday morning in what police are calling a domestic incident.

Washington Police received a call around 7:15 a.m., reporting a stabbing at house on the 100 block of Manuel Drive. Both police and EMS responded and the victim, stabbed multiple times with a kitchen knife, was transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, due to the severity of her injuries, according to Lt. William Chrismon, spokesman for the Washington Police Department.

The knife, described as a “chef’s knife,” was recovered at the scene, he said.

The suspect was identified as Terrance Lamar Chase, 40, of Whootentown Road, Washington. Chase was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, breaking and entering a residence and larceny from motor vehicle, the release stated.

“It was pretty clear cut. It was a domestic event that escalated out of control really quickly,” Chrismon said. “He broke the window out of her car; he broke a window into her house.”

Chase is believed to be the ex-boyfriend of the victim. The 911 call is thought to have come from the victim, who fled her residence to a nearby relative’s and called police. Chase was arrested on Pontiac Drive shortly afterward, Chrismon said.

“He was taken into custody without incident walking away from the scene,” Chrismon said.

As of Monday afternoon, Chase was in the Beaufort County Detention Center without bond pending appearances and the victim remained hospitalized in Greenville.
