Mrs. Rachel Brooks Hardison, age 91, a former resident of Pantego, died Saturday, December 19, 2015 at River Trace Nursing Center of Washington.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, officiated by Rev. Harold Swinson.

Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Robbie Slade, Jacob Hardison, Bryan Lake, Zachary Phillips, Kyle Elliott and Richard Paul will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of Mrs. Hardison’s daughter, Ann Respass, located at 95 Westside Drive, Plymouth.

Mrs. Hardison was born in Beaufort County on December 10, 1924, daughter of the late Charlie Jackson Brooks Sr. and the late Annie Eliza Tetterton Brooks.

She was a graduate of Pantego High School. On July 17, 1948 she married Marvin Hardison who preceded her in death on January 15, 1994. Mrs. Hardison lived most of her adult life in the Woodbridge area of Virginia before returning back to her native Beaufort County. She was a homemaker, a member of First Christian Church of Plymouth and attended Free Union Free Will Baptist Church of Pinetown.

Survivors include a daughter: Ann Respass (Ernest) of Plymouth; two sons: Phillip “Phil” Hardison (Donnie) of Pantego and Douglas “Doug” Hardison (Michelle) of Pantego; a brother: Howard Brooks of Virginia Beach, VA; four sisters: Lois B. Slade of Pantego, Nelva B. Swinson (Johnnie) of Jamesville, Elva B. Respess (Henry) of Hopewell, VA and Patsy B. Rose (Charles) of Pantego; and seventeen grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Hardison was predeceased, along with her husband, by two brothers: Frank Brooks and Charlie “C.J.” Brooks Jr. and two sisters: Mildred Brooks and Mary B. Cuthrell.
