H. Perry Fortescue

H. Perry Fortescue, age 51, a resident of Washington, died Friday, December 18, 2015 at his home. Mr. Fortescue was born in Belhaven on December 23, 1963 to James and Elvira White Fortescue, who survive. He was married to the former Sonya McCutcheon on June 27, 2003, who also survives.
He was a graduate of Pungo Christian Academy in 1982 and was employed as a Sales Manager/Part Owner with Washington Jewelers until his retirement. He was a member of Ware’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing and being with friends and family.
Survivors in addition to his parents and wife are his children: Chantel Fortescue of Washington, Zack Fortescue (Sara) of Greenville, NC, Kevin McCutcheon (Nicky) of Washington, and Amy McCutcheon of Morehead City, NC; three grandchildren: D.C. Davis, MacKenzie McCutcheon and Camden McCutcheon; his brother, Jim Fortescue (Amy) of Washington; all of his brothers from Bunyan and many other family members and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ashley Fortescue.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service and other times at the home.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service with Perry’s first cousin, Gene Davis, officiating. Burial will follow at the Fortescue Family Farm where he will be laid to rest beside his daughter, Ashley.
Bunyan Fire Department Volunteers will serve as pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bunyan Fire Department Building Fund, 8264 Broad Creek Rd., Washington, or Relay for Life of Beaufort County, P.O. Box 2708, Washington, N.C. 27889.
The family would like to thank family, friends and Community Hospice, especially Sheila Lassiter and Brandy Nobles. We would also like to thank everyone that came out to the waterfront and pulled together for Perry’s wish to see Christmas lights.
