BELHAVEN — Belhaven’s Board of Aldermen meeting scheduled for Monday, Jan. 11 is expected to be a straightforward one, addressing a few housekeeping items for the town.

It will be the first Board of Aldermen meeting in almost a month.

The first item on the agenda, following public comments, will require the council’s action to place the names of the newly elected Aldermen Dr. Charles Boyette, Ricky Credle and Amos Wilson on the Town’s bank account to enable them to handle finances and sign checks when needed, according Mayor Adam O’Neal.

O’Neal said that this is a routine action whenever different aldermen are elected and helps to keep transparency with each person’s handling of town money.

“That way they can see what’s going on,” he said. “All councilmen and myself are able to sign checks.”

Another item includes a report from Diana Lambeth, executive director of the Belhaven Community Chamber of Commerce, regarding the money raised through the town’s Christmas festivities.

In a previous interview, Lambeth said Belhaven’s Christmas events, including December’s candlelight tour of seven homes, raised more than $1,000 for the Belhaven Memorial Museum. Part of that money may go toward purchasing a lift to make the second-floor museum handicapped-accessible, she said.

In other business, the Board of Aldermen will hear Town Manager Woody Jarvis’s report, and the Board will also have the opportunity to voice any concerns they may have on other topics.

The Belhaven Board of Aldermen meeting will be Monday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Belhaven Civic Center, 257 W. Pungo St., Belhaven.
