Mrs. James “Jack” Gilbert Harris, a resident of Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. John Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Harris was born Dec. 31, 1936, in Plymouth. He was the son of the late James Eli Harris and Blanche Modlin Harris Ricks. He was a 1955 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School, serving as class president. He was a graduate of the N.C. Central University School of Law. He served in the Army. Mr. Harris practiced law in northeastern North Carolina and southside Virginia for 26 years.
Survivors include his wife Doris Capps Harris; two sons, Jeff Harris of Emporia, Va., and Jason Harris of Zebulon; two stepsons, Jeff Kearney of Littleton and Greg Kearney of Tallahassee, Fla.; a brother, Alonza Harris of Roanoke Rapids; a sister, Brenda H. Butler of Franklin, Va.; a half brother, Earl Ricks of Roanoke Rapids; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Askew Funeral &Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.
