Metropolitan AME plans service to honor MLK Jr.

 REV. DAVID L. MOORE HONORING A CIVIL RIGHTS LEGEND: Rev. Dr. Jacob W. Kines, Jr. will serve as the guest speaker for Metropolitan AME Zion Church’s service, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the church. Kines was born in Atlanta and grew up in Rome, Georgia. An ordained minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Jacob proudly serves as the Sr. Minster of First Christian Church of Washington.  His primary ministerial emphases include preaching, teaching and transformational leadership. Jacob received his M.Div. from Emory University's Candler School of Theology and his Ph.D. from the University of Denver and Iliff School of Theology with a concentration in Religion and Social Change. His dissertation explored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s holistic understanding of reconciliation and his message of liberation for the oppressed and their oppressors. Jacob, his wife Valerie, and their three children (Kate, Sam, and Evie) are grateful to live in Washington where, as newcomers, they look forward to partnering with others in efforts aimed at strengthening community.
