The State Highway Patrol has released the name of the victim killed in an early-morning crash on Friday.

Linda T. Alligood, 51, of Mill Hole Road in Washington, was driving a Nissan Pathfinder when she failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with a log truck on Slatestone Road.

Authorities received the call at about 6:37 a.m., according to Trooper Connor Wilson. He said the log truck ran off the road, struck a ditch and then crashed into a tree. The SUV crashed off of the right side of the road.

Alligood died at the scene and was subsequently taken to Vidant Beaufort Hospital. Alligood’s family has been notified, Wilson said.

The driver of the log truck has been identified as Alton Hodges. “He had minor injuries, but he was cleared by EMS and was not transported (to the hospital),” Wilson said.

The SUV was a total loss and hauled away by crews this morning. Both Alligood and Hodges were the only ones in their respective vehicles.

“She lived around there. … It’s hard to say exactly where she was going,” Wilson said. “The investigation is still ongoing.”
