The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Jan. 7 at the Washington Yacht & Country Club in the Upper Deck. President David McLawhorn called the meeting to order and led in the Pledge of Allegiance. The talented Bartow Houston led in the singing of “America the Beautiful” and Russell Smith offered the blessing for the upcoming meal.

Following the meal, the podium was turned over to Dr. Tim Klugh to discuss this year’s fishing tournament. The Charlie Griffin Memorial Fishing Tournament will be held Saturday, June 4, from 6 a.m. to noon. This is the club’s largest fundraiser and will be the seventh consecutive tournament. Tim encouraged all members to get involved and seek sponsors. The proceeds from the tournament go back into our local community. A prime example was the presentation of a check for $2,000 to the Beaufort County Community College Foundation during Thursday night’s meeting. President McLawhorn congratulated the club on a very successful bell-ringing season for the Salvation Army at Christmas. The Washington Evening Rotary Club took in a total of $5,000.80. The members responded with a hearty round of applause. The meeting concluded with the members reciting the Four Way Test of the things we think, say and do.

 

 

 

Jan. 14

The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met again Thursday night (Jan. 14) at the Washington Yacht & Country Club. President David McLawhorn called on Sandy Mitchell to lead the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Russell Smith lead the singing of “America the Beautiful” and Bruce Rabon gave thanks for the upcoming meal.

Club member Dr. Tim Klugh was introduced by President McLawhorn to present the evening’s program. Dr. Klugh, a physician with Precision Eye Care of Washington, introduced his guest and coworker Betty Brame. Betty serves as marketing and outreach coordinator for Precision Eye Care. Dr. Klugh focused on cataract surgery options and the new technology in use today. This results in less time in surgery and a speedier recovery. Members had many questions and welcomed the professional responses from Dr. Klugh and Betty. There being no further business, Jeff Larson led the club members in reciting the Four Way Test of the things we think, say and do.
