Pelicans, ducks, songbirds and even an alligator are featured side by side in perfect harmony in the Turnage Theatre and gallery.

They are all part of the Arts of the Pamlico’s newest show titled “Nature and Wildlife,” according to the nonprofit organization’s executive director Joey Toler.

The show is a preview of the upcoming East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival, scheduled for Feb. 5-7 in Washington.

“We thought it would be nice to have an exhibit that would take advantage of having all these people in town that weekend, giving them another part of Washington to check out while they’re here,” Toler said. “And we have a lot of local artists who do nature and wildlife so it is good for them, too.”

The show, which opened this week, features over 60 works of art by Beaufort County artists as well as others from across eastern North Carolina. The pieces include oil paintings, watercolors, acrylics, photographs and three-dimensional works of art.

An artists’ reception is scheduled for the evening of Feb. 4 at the Turnage, according to Toler. The public is invited to attend.

The gallery is open Tuesdays through Fridays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. For more information about this and other events hosted by Arts of the Pamlico, call 252-946-2504 or visit www.artsofthepamlico.org. The Turnage Theatre and gallery is located at 150 W. Main St. in downtown Washington.
