LONGTIME EVENT: The Engelhard Seafood Festival is entering its 29th year in 2016, and organizers want to make this one bigger and better than before. Last year’s announcement is shown here.

ENGELHARD — The 29th annual Engelhard Seafood Festival has been moved from its usual May time slot to Sept. 3.

Jo Ann Spencer, who helps organize the event, said the change was made because of conflicts with another May festival event in the county.

By moving the date, Spencer said the Seafood Festival hopes to attract more people, rather than attendees having to choose between events.

She said organizers have yet to start concrete plans for this year’s event, but they expect it to include the usual attractions seen in previous years, such as local seafood, vendors, children’s rides and entertainment.

“We really haven’t gotten there yet,” Spencer said. “We’re going to strive for it to be similar to last year but bigger.”

Although the September date is a shift, she said there are benefits to having it later in the year.

“By us pushing the date back, too, it gives us a little more planning time,” Spencer said. “It’s not such short notice.”

She said the festival’s organizers are now looking for vendors or volunteers to sign up to participate.

The idea is for the event to be one of fun for residents and out-of-towners alike, children and adults, seafood enthusiasts and those who are just looking for something to do.
