WASHINGTON EVENING ROTARY CLUB
ON BOND: Dr. Jay Sullivan with Beaufort County Community College spoke to Washington (evening) Rotary Club this week about the March 15 bond referendum that will benefit North Carolina community colleges.

The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday night at the Washington Yacht & Country Club in the Pamlico Room. President David McLawhorn called the meeting to order and Bill Wall led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Dr. David Swarner valiantly led in one verse of “America” and club Chaplain Bruce Rabon gave thanks for the meal. After dining on fried flounder, it was the ideal time for Dr. Tim Klugh to give an update on the Charlie Griffin Memorial Fishing Tournament. Sponsors are currently being sought for the clubs largest fundraiser. Proceeds from the tournament enable the club to do many good things for our community. All were encouraged to get involved and make this a success. Club member Dr. Jay Sullivan presented the evening program. Dr. Sullivan is vice president of Institutional Effectiveness and Research at Beaufort County Community College. He spoke as a concerned citizen about the bond referendum that will be put before the voters March 15. In it, $382 million dollars are targeted for eastern NC with $182 million targeted for the southeast region. Another $350 million will go to the states community colleges. Beaufort County Community College would receive $6,557,819 from the bonds for new construction, repairs and renovations. This would allow the college to meet the needs of students with Americans With Disabilities Act requirements as well as permit development of a vital Public Safety Training Complex where fire, EMS and law enforcement personnel can train in state of the art facilities without traveling outside our service area. The meeting closed with members reciting the Four Way Test of the things we Think, Say and Do.
