BCCC Foundation announces scholarship recipients for spring 2016 semester

The following students are among those who have received scholarships from the Beaufort County Community College Foundation for the spring 2016 semester.

Beaufort County Crimestoppers Scholarship

Naomi Brown and Sanfara Christian have been awarded the Beaufort County Crimestoppers Scholarship.

 

Brown, 19, of Blounts Creek, is pursuing an Associate in Arts degree from BCCC. A graduate of Southside High School, she plans to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a bachelor’s and master’s degree in criminal justice. She is the daughter of Robert and Cathy Brown of Blount’s Creek. Christian, 48, of Chocowinity, is a student in BCCC’s criminal justice program. A graduate of Arcadia High School in Oak Hall, Virginia, she holds a diploma as a medical assistant. Christian is serving an internship at the Beaufort County Courthouse. She and her husband, Mark, have two children.

The Beaufort County Crimestoppers Scholarship was established in 2014 to provide educational opportunities to students pursuing degrees in law enforcement.

 

BCCC Trustee Scholarship

Lisa Reid of Washington has received the Beaufort County Community College Trustee Scholarship.

Reid, 45, is pursuing an Associate in Arts degree from BCCC and plans to enter the East Carolina University social work program after graduation. A graduate of Harry S. Truman High School in the Bronx, New York, she is employed at Cornerstone Families. She has four children. Reid currently serves as a BCCC Ambassador.

The BCCC Trustee Scholarship is awarded annually from an endowment established in 1996 by the BCCC Board of Trustees. It is awarded to a full-time student enrolled in a curriculum program. The recipient must demonstrate financial need, leadership ability and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.

 

David Clark Scholarship

Three students — Jeffrey Egerton, Jason Squires and Joshua Anthony White — were awarded the David Clark Scholarship to attend Beaufort County Community College this spring. Egerton, 50, of Washington, is a student in BCCC’s welding technology program. A graduate of East New York Vocational and Technical High School, he is employed as a security officer. Egerton and his wife, Falisha, have two children. He plans to open a welding business after graduating from BCCC. Squires, 33, of Chocowinity, is a student in BCCC’s mechanical engineering technology program. A graduate of Forrest High School in Ocala, Florida, he is employed at Oak Ridge Industries and Food Lion. After graduating from BCCC, he plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology. Squires and his wife, Laina, have five children. White, 18, of Edenton, is a student in BCCC’s construction equipment systems. The son of Jay and Lori White of Edenton, he is employed on the family farm. A graduate of John A. Holmes High School, he plans to get a job as a diesel mechanic while also working on the family farm.

The David Clark Scholarship is awarded from a scholarship established in 2011 by Trader Construction Company in New Bern and Potash Corp-Aurora, in memory of David Clark. Clark was a Trader Construction Company superintendent with more than 30 years of industrial construction experience. The scholarship is made available to BCCC students in any of the industrial technology programs — automotive systems, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, heavy equipment and transport/construction equipment, mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering/drafting and design or welding.

 

Coastal Carolina Ford Club Scholarship

DeAireo Austin, of Washington, has received the Coastal Carolina Ford Club Scholarship to attend Beaufort County Community College this spring.

Austin, 18, is a graduate of Washington High School and is enrolled in the automotive services technology program at BCCC. After completing his studies, Austin plans to work as an automotive mechanic. The Coastal Carolina Ford Club Scholarship was established in 2014 and is awarded to a student pursuing a career in the automotive repair field.

 

 

Lucille Edwards Carowan Dibble Scholarship

Timothy Benjamin of Washington has been awarded the Lucille Edwards Carowan Dibble Scholarship to attend Beaufort County Community College this spring.

Benjamin, 50, is a student in BCCC’s mechanical engineering technology program. He plans to seek a job in his field after graduating from BCCC.

The scholarship is awarded from an endowment established in 2006 in memory of Lucille Edwards Carowan Dibble by her husband, Louis Dibble, and her daughters Gladys, Clarissa, Mary and Martha. The scholarship assists students in the mechanical engineering/drafting and design program.

 

Gordon Hoffman Scholarship

Juan Ramirez of Washington is the recipient of the Gordon Hoffman Scholarship to attend Beaufort County Community College this spring. Ramirez, 21, is a student in BCCC’s criminal justice program. A graduate of D. H. Conley High School, Ramirez is employed with Ramirez and Sons Landscaping. The son of Carlos Ramirez and Elva Trejo, he plans to get a job in the criminal justice and law enforcement field after graduating from BCCC.

Created from the sale of land donated to the Foundation by Gordon Hoffman, this scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing studies in criminal justice. Prior to his retirement in 2003, Hoffman was the director of BCCC’s Basic Law Enforcement Training program.

 

 

Barbara LaBarbera Scholarship

Priscilla Styons of Pinetown has received the Barbara LaBarbera Scholarship to attend BCCC this spring. A graduate of Northside High School, Styons is a student in BCCC’s associate degree in nursing program. She is employed as a nail technician and as a secretary for the Beaver Dam Church of Christ. Styons and her husband, Michael, have two children.

The Barbara LaBarbera Scholarship was established in 2015 by Civitan on the Pamlico in memory of LaBarbera, a charter member of the club. The scholarship is awarded to a student accepted into BCCC’s nursing program who demonstrates academic achievement and financial need.

 

 

BCCC Faculty Senate Scholarship

Tierra Crosby of Washington was awarded the Beaufort County Community College Scholarship Faculty Senate Scholarship to attend BCCC this spring. Crosby, 31, is a student in BCCC’s business administration program. A graduate of Morristown High School, she is the daughter of George and AnnMarie Bass of Morris Plains, New Jersey. Crosby is employed as a cashier at KFC and plans to open her own women and children’s boutique after graduating from BCCC.

The BCCC Faculty Senate Scholarship is funded by an annual contribution to the BCCC Foundation from the Faculty Senate, an organization whose purpose includes representing the BCCC faculty on issues affecting the college.
