JOHN SMALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
SELF-CONTROL: As John Small Elementary School Eagles go about their day, self-control is on display throughout the school. It’s a hard task, but monthly, each teacher is given the responsibility to select only one student to represent the class as the student who most exhibits the character trait of the month. He or she will be a special guest at a monthly Lunch Bunch co-hosted by the school’s PTA and Papa John’s Pizza. The character trait for the month of January was self-control, the quality that allows you to stop yourself from doing things you want to do but might not be in your best interest. Self-control is telling yourself the right thing to do before someone else has to. The Lunch Bunch guest speaker was Mrs. Neva Cashion, a retired Beaufort County Schools employee and owner of Inner Banks Music Academy. The JSS Character Education Committee is co-chaired by Kathryn Bryant, fifth-grade teacher, and Chynna Bonner, school counselor.
