Randy Owen Cuthrell
July 4, 1958 – Feb. 13, 2016

In loving memory of Randy Owen Cuthrell, who suddenly left us on the 13th of February. Randy cherished his family and friends, and never met a stranger. He was a kind and generous man; endearing himself to anyone he met. He graduated from Fernandina Beach High School, and was proud to have been the ‘lucky’ left-handed number 13 on the Pirates baseball team.

The biggest pride and joy in his life was his daughter Nicolette. A father’s love was evident whenever he spoke of her.

Captain Randy’s passion in life was the shrimping industry and he was one of the hardest workers you will ever meet. He was proud to be a member of the White Boot Society of shrimpers and gave us an up close and personal view of the trials commercial fishermen face. He shared with the world countless sunrises and sunsets documented by his photography, information he forever gleaned from innumerable sources about seafood quality control, and then there was the food!

As Captain of F/V Judge he tirelessly promoted BD Judge Seafood and Georgia Grown wild caught shrimp, winning numerous awards recognition.

Randy became a brand known throughout the shrimping industry and beyond.

Randy is survived by three daughters — Nicolette Cuthrell, Alexa Melvin and Charlie Patton, one son — Trey Melvin, one grandchild — Raelyn, two sisters — Wanda (Fred) Mastin and Jennifer (Ben) Sabo and a brother — Steve (Tani) Cuthrell.

He adored being “Uncle Randy” to his nieces and nephews — Amelia, Brian, Chase, Christopher, Courtney, Grady and Matthew.

Randy was born in Belhaven, North Carolina, and was predeceased by his loving parents, Barney and Doris Cuthrell.

A memorial service will be held at the Fernandina Harbor Marina- Waterfront Green Space, located at the south end of the Marina (adjacent to parking lot D on South Front Street), Fernandina Beach, FL, on Saturday, March 5th at 1:00 p.m. A celebration in honor of Randy’s life will be held afterwards at the American Legion Hall, 626 South 3rd Street. Friends and family are invited to attend.

A memorial fund is set up at GoFundMe (Randy Cuthrell Memorial & Bench).

An informal memorial service will be held in North Carolina at a later date.
