The Pamlico Sail & Power Squadron (PSPS) announces two upcoming events for the month of April 2016: America’s Boating Course and another boating seminar, Rules of the Road.

America’s Boating Course is a three-day course that includes introduction to boating terms, trailering & storing, knots and lines, aids to navigation, boating law and regulations, marine radio and personal water craft. Completion of this course meets North Carolina boating law changes requiring certification for any person under the age of 26 operating a vessel with a motor of 10 horsepower or more. Completion may also qualify the owner for a discount from many insurance companies.

Added bonus: passing students receive a six-month PSPS membership.

The course will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on three Saturdays, April 2, 9 and 16, at Brown Library. The cost is $30/individual or $35/couple. To register, call 252-561-6995 or email pspsed@gmail.com.

Rules of the Road is a seminar to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Brown Library.

This one-day seminar provides recreational boaters with information on 37 Rules of the Road pertinent to operating all types of boats in international or in-land waters. Requirements for lighting, distress and other signals, sail boats, fishing boats and operating in restricted visibility are all covered along with many other situations.

There is no charge for the seminar. Course materials may be purchased for $20.

This is a public seminar and USPS/PSPS membership is not required. To register, email pspsed@gmail.com or contact our education officer, Kelly Adams, at 252-561-6995. Brown Library is located at 122 Van Norden St. in Washington.

PSPS is a non-profit organization dedicated to boating safety through education, civil service and fellowship. PSPS is a unit within the United States Power Squadron (USPS), America’s largest non-profit recreational boating organization since 1914.
