Eleven county clerks from across the state recently received their designation as Certified County Clerks. This certification was developed and is administered with the assistance of the UNC-School of Government. This designation is conferred upon those clerks who complete the required training, experiential and examination components all of which are rather rigorous.

Adding this level of expertise enhances the ability of these counties to meet the needs of the public in the most efficient and effective manner. The training they must complete touches on all aspects of county government including budgeting, purchasing, zoning, tax collection and assessment as well as supervisory training and employee relations making these employees well-rounded and ready to work at the highest level of county government.

In order to be certified, clerks must complete the School of Government Clerk Certification Program and pass the required examination and be an active member in good standing of the NC Association of County Clerks.

The following clerks recently received their certification: Robin Keller, clerk, Guilford County; Leslie Rudd, deputy clerk, Wake County; Lindsey Ray, clerk, Chatham County; Kathleen (Katie) Mosher, clerk, Beaufort County; Kymberleigh Crowell, deputy clerk, New Hanover County; Amanda Varner, clerk, Randolph County; Gina Wheeler, clerk, Harnett County; Elizabeth Candace Way, deputy clerk, Haywood County; Paula Seamster, clerk, Caswell County; Donna Buff, clerk, Gaston County; and Angela Winchester, clerk, Jackson County.
