From Beaufort County Community College

The following are upcoming classes through the Continuing Education Department at Beaufort County Community College:

Cake Decorating I (23966): Make your baking much more inviting by learning how to decorate cakes, cupcakes and cookies from Michelle Daniels. In BCCC’s Cake Decorating I class you will learn how to decorate cakes that will delight your family and friends. You will master elegant borders using shells, rosettes and stars and learn to create lovely flowers such as roses, rosebuds, sweet peas and pansies. Take this class and enjoy decorating a beautiful cake for every event. Classes are on Mondays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. starting April 11. The fee for this 15-hour class is $45.

Four-Stroke Small Engine Repair (24021): This class continues the Small Engine Repair series. Students will gain hands-on knowledge of repairing four-cycle engines. We will pay special attention to carburetors. Students are encouraged to bring their four-cycle engines to class for tune-up and repair experience. The fee for this 30-hour class is $96.25. Beginning on March 22, it will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m.

Opera — Madame Butterfly (24016): Come attend one of Puccini’s great operas: the beautiful and emotional Madame Butterfly. Set in early-20th-century Japan, this opera explores themes that are relevant to today’s world. Love, difference and sacrifice bring Madame Butterfly to a sad and powerful ending. It’s another great opera for those who want to explore this expressive and engaging medium. Again, Jeff Phipps will lead us to an understanding of the opera and its production on March 29. Then we will travel to the Greenville Grand on Saturday, April 2 to enjoy the Metropolitan Opera’s live HD broadcast of Madame Butterfly. The $65 fee includes your ticket and transportation.

Golf (23969): No golf clubs? No problem. We’ve got the clubs and the space for you to come learn the basics of golf. It’s a great way to find out if this is the game for you. BCCC’s Health and Fitness instructor, Ron Baldwin, will coach this four-session class. Two classes will take place on Terrapin Track Golf Course. Enjoy the spring evenings and learn to address the ball, proper stance, grip, hip rotation, weight shift, targeting, proper etiquette and rules. The fee for this 8-hour class is $46.25. It will take place on Tuesdays, April 5-26 from 6-8 p.m.

Perennial Gardens Excursion (24105): Gardening with perennial plants is challenging and satisfying. It helps to see what some great gardeners are doing, so let’s explore two great perennial gardens nearby. On May 5, Clay Carter will host a workshop on gardening with perennials. Then on May 12, we will visit Tony Avent’s Plant Delights nursery and Juniper Level Botanical Garden. It’s one of the most instructive and beautiful gardens you will ever see. We will also explore the J.C. Raulston Arboretum and its perennial border at N.C. State. We’ll get lunch and possibly stop by the State Farmer’s Market. The fee for this 10.5-hour class is $71.25.
