A renowned figure from the world of dance is coming to Washington this weekend and sharing her expertise during classes hosted by Washington Performing Arts/Le Moulin Rouge de Danse.

Casie “Tynee” Goshow, a finalist on the popular television series “So You Think You Can Dance,” will lead two classes Sunday afternoon, according to studio owner Shannon Reising. The classes are scheduled from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m.

Goshow is also a star of the HBO series “How To Make It in America” and has several commercials to her credit, including ads for Nike, Adidas and Coca-Cola.

The celebrity’s visit to Beaufort County comes after a chance meeting between Reising and Goshow’s manager earlier this year.

“I sat next to her manager during the Excel dance convention in Charlotte in January,” Reising said. “I later received an email offering the opportunity for her to come to teach classes. She caters to urbane, rural areas. For somebody of this caliber to come to Washington is crazy!”

Reising stressed that the special classes are open to anyone in the community and are not limited to Le Moulin Rouge de Danse students.

“We are supporting her, but we are just the venue,” she explained. “This is something the community should be a part of. Parents, students at other studios, really anybody who is interested is welcome.”

Goshow’s visit is a dream come true for those interested in hip-hop dance, Reising added.

“She is extra special because she is short; she is a B-Girl (short for break dancer), she does tricks like a break dancer but she does hip-hop too,” Reising said. “She started as a gymnast and took one hip-hop class and quit gymnastics.”

Reising said Goshow’s style and knowledge should appeal to folks of all ages.

“If you want the experience, this is the time to do it,” Reising said. “This is perfect for dancers and cheerleaders. Casie’s repertoire is really broad and she’s very good. It’s just crazy what this woman has done.”

Sunday’s classes are divided into two skill levels: beginning/intermediate and intermediate/advanced. The classes are limited to 30 students each. Tickets are $20 per class and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students should be at least in the fourth grade or older to participate.
