CHOCOWINITY MIDDLE SCHOOL TOURNAMENT TIME: Chocowinity Middle School held two basketball tournaments the last week of February as fundraisers for the school. Students were given the opportunity to purchase tickets to get out of class and support their teammates as they played through the tournament. On the first day of the tournaments, seventh- and eighth-grade students had six teams competing, along with a staff team, to be champions. The tournament on this day was won by the Finezz team made up of James Corprew, Ivory Moore, Conner Curlings, Trevon Gibbs and Xavier Simmons. On the second day of the tournaments, fifth- and sixth-grade teams and the staff team moved through the brackets until the championship round between the Elite Ballers, made up of Donta Deloach, Vonte Deloch, Kenjray Coffield, Brandon Clark, Jody Pierce and Kanyah O'Neal, and the staff team, which included Andrew Ditlevson, assistant principal, Carlton Roberson, head custodian, Deanna Keys, eighth-grade ELA teacher, Uriah Ward, social studies teacher, and Lisa Staats, math teacher. The staff team won the fifth- and sixth-grade tournament. CMS students and staff raised over $1,500 with the tournament. (Not pictured: Conner Curlings)
