From Washington High School 

On March 12, Washington High School JROTC welcomed students from 11 other schools for a raider competition and drill event. The other schools were: Camden County High (Camden), Hertford County High (Hertford), J.B. Hunt High (Wilson), Beddingfield High (Wilson), Ralph L. Fike High (Wilson), Northeastern High (Pasquotank), Ayden-Grifton High (Pitt), South Central High (Pitt), North Edgecombe High (Edgecombe), East Northampton High (Northampton) and North Pitt High (Pitt).

The raider competition involved a physical fitness test of push-ups, sit-ups and a 1-mile run, as well as raider skills tests, including the building and crossing of a rope bridge, evacuating a casualty and land navigation. Camden County High School earned first place in the physical fitness event.

The drill event included seven categories, including color guard, regulation squad, platoon drill with weapons, platoon drill without weapons, exhibition drill with weapons and exhibition drill without weapons. Camden took first overall, and Washington earned one third-place and two second-place trophies. Washington’s regulation squad without weapons, commanded by Tasha Reid, earned second place, and Susan Chiprout’s squad with weapons and Dysenique Spencer’s regulation platoon finished third.
