Louise Terry Scholarship
Cynthia Tatum Stanley of Belhaven has been awarded the Louise Terry Scholarship to attend Beaufort County Community College this spring.
Stanley, 56, is a student in the business administration program at BCCC. A graduate of Aurora High School, she is the daughter of Charlie and Ella Mae Tatum and has three children. She plans to open a business after graduating from BCCC.
The Louise Terry Scholarship is awarded from an endowment created in 2012 by Linda Lancaster in celebration and memory of her sister’s long and successful business career. It is awarded to a BCCC business student.
Rita Toler Scholarship
Quashema Lovick of Scranton has received the Rita Toler Scholarship to attend Beaufort County Community College this spring.
Lovick, 18, is pursuing an Associate in Arts degree at BCCC and plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business management after graduation. The daughter of Denise Lovick Weston of Scranton and Tony Slade of Washington, Lovick is a 2015 graduate of Mattamuskeet Early College High School.
The scholarship is awarded from an endowment established in 2003 in memory of Rita B. Toler by her husband Gary and daughter Kelly T. Harding. This scholarship honors Toler’s 32-year career in the BCCC business office. Toler served as controller at BCCC before her retirement in 2003.
Louise and Dorsey Welch Scholarship
Bernice Minor of Washington was awarded the Louise and Dorsey Welch Scholarship to attend Beaufort County Community College this spring. Minor is pursuing an Associate in Arts degree from BCCC. A graduate of Washington High School, she holds a theology degree and is employed as a correctional case manager by the N.C. Department of Public Safety. She plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education from East Carolina University after graduating from BCCC.
The Louise and Dorsey Welch Scholarship is awarded from an endowment established in 2001 in memory of the Welches. This scholarship is made available annually to a student who, after completing his or her initial course work at BCCC, plans to go on to earn a teaching degree. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this scholarship.
Wilkinson/Archbell Scholarship
Christine LeCompte and Bernice Minor (above) of Washington received the Wilkinson/Archbell Scholarship to attend Beaufort County Community College this spring. A graduate of Bath High School, LeCompte holds certifications as a nurse aide I and II and an emergency medical technician. She plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education after graduating from BCCC. LeCompte and her husband, Roland, have three children.
Minor is pursuing an Associate in Arts degree from BCCC. A graduate of Washington High School, she holds a theology degree and is employed as a correctional case manager by the N.C. Department of Public Safety. She plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education from East Carolina University after graduating from BCCC.
The Wilkinson/Archbell Scholarship is awarded from an endowment established in 1990 by John A. Wilkinson, a local attorney, in memory of his uncle, Mr. J.E. Archbell, a leader in the tobacco industry. This endowment is also used to fund the BCCC Ambassador program, FFA scholarships, staff and faculty excellence awards and continuing education tuition for faculty.
