Guards robbed while servicing ATM

Two armored-truck guards were robbed at gunpoint by more than one person Thursday morning at the Bank of America ATM at Washington Square Mall, according to police.

The Washington Police Department is investigating the robbery, with assistance from the FBI and State Bureau of Investigation.

The robbery happened shortly after 10 a.m. as two Garda Cash Logistics guards were servicing the ATM. The robber’s took the guards’ weapons, according to Washington police Lt. William Chrismon. The robbery resulted in the nearby BOA branch being closed for several hours.

No other details about the robbery were immediately available Thursday evening.

Garda provides armored-vehicle services, and it services ATMs. Garda has locations in Durham and Hampton, Va., among other locations.
