Mr. Clayton J. Keel, age 85, a resident of Washington, died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Roanoke River Nursing Center of Williamston.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, officiated by Evangelist Leroy K. “Skip” Hurley.  Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery of Washington.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Mr. Keel was born in Pitt County on August 12, 1930, son of the late Andrew Jackson “Jack” Keel and the late Betty Elizabeth Bullock Keel. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On October 14, 1994 he married the former Margie Rae Woolard who preceded him in death on January 29, 2011.

Mr. Keel was a merchandising manager with Pepsi Bottling Company of Greenville and later worked with Beaufort County Hospital as a courier. He attended Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ and was a member of the American Legion Post 15 of Washington.

Surviving is a daughter: Seglenda K. Thomas and her husband Jesse of Cleveland, AL; two grandsons: Cameron Thomas and Caleb Thomas both of Cleveland, AL; a special niece: Carolyn Owens of Washington and several other nieces and nephews. Mr. Keel was predeceased by a brother: Howard Keel and two sisters: Rosa Lee Martin and Margie Lucille Owens.
