Beaufort County Community College TRIO students joined TRIO students from North and South Carolina for the Charlotte Hornets TRIO Day on March 12. A speaker panel of top Hornets executives shared how they began their career, advice on working in professional sports and entertainment and what their typical day is like with the 477 TRIO students in attendance. The students were amazed with the planning and preparation needed for game night to be successful. During the Q&A session, several BCCC students asked the executives about their education and about the possibility of students interning in the industry.

After exploring Uptown Charlotte and dinner, the students returned to the Time Warner Cable Arena to cheer on the Hornets to victory over the Houston Rockets. For most, it was their first opportunity to see a professional game. Tashawna Scott, BCCC TRIO student development coordinator, said, “Our students were excited to be in the crowd and see the pro players. I was proud of the questions they asked during the panel session. It shows that they were paying attention and were making the most of the experience.”
