The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday night at the Washington Yacht & Country Club. After a social period, the members gathered in the Pamlico Room for their meal and business session. Shannon Carter, filling in for President McLawhorn, called the meeting to order. Brownie Futrell led in the Pledge of Allegiance and music man Bartow Houston led in one verse of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” Russell Smith gave thanks for a fine meal. It being Club Assembly night, there was no guest speaker. Club Assembly allows the club time to attend to any pending issues, as well as club business in general. This night was dedicated to putting the final touches on the Charlie Griffin Memorial Fishing Tournament. This is the club’s largest fundraiser of the year and is scheduled to take place June 4. Members were encouraged to finalize their sponsors as soon as possible, so T-shirts could be printed. The T-shirts are very popular and have become quite the collector’s item. All sponsors are on the shirt. With all being said and done, Sam Grimes led the members in reciting the Four Way Test of the things we think, say and do.
