From Historic Port of Washington

A new downtown museum exhibit opens Thursday and features the upcoming 300th anniversary of the Colonial Port of Bath, 1716–2016.

This new exhibit, “300th Anniversary of Port Bath” was created by volunteers at the downtown Historic Port of Washington Project center. The HPOW (Historic Port of Washington) display will offer a montage slice of history, images and multimedia all related to the upcoming 300th Anniversary of the Colonial Port of Bath.

The exhibit includes information about British colonial customs organization, port officials, ships and cargo of 18th century as well as period maps and illustrations. The display area is furnished with a loop slideshow that offers a unique way to explore the link between the colonial Port Bath Customs Service, created in 1716, and the Federal Port of Washington, created in 1790. An after-hours opening reception will be held on Thursday, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

HPOW is an all volunteer, non-profit organization. This event is free, but donations are encouraged to help us pay the rent. New volunteers are always welcome to help in preserving and sharing the history of our unique town.
