Mrs. Doris Ann Everett Koonce, age 79, a resident of 924 Post Road, Bath, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at her home following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the family’s old home place, located at 851 Post Road, Bath. The service will be officiated by Derik Davis and Pastor Linda Taylor.
The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2016 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and also following the service on Saturday.
Mrs. Koonce was born in Beaufort County on October 11, 1936, daughter of the late Virgil Clarence Everett and the late Vonnie Mae Squires Everett. She attended Bath High School. On October 11, 1954 she married Luby Wiley Koonce who preceded her in death on September 1, 2007. Mrs. Koonce worked at Sampson’s Shirt Factory of Washington for over 30 years. During tobacco season she also managed the tobacco harvesting crew for Giles Cutler’s farm. She was an excellent checkers player who also enjoyed chess, bingo and Yahtzee. Mrs. Koonce was a self-taught artist and leaves many paintings for her family to cherish. Most of all she loved her family and was a dedicated homemaker.
Survivors include three sons: Jerry Koonce, Garry Koonce and Keith Koonce (Sherry), all of Bath; two daughters: Ruby K. Glover (Mark) of Havelock and Beverly K. Jarvis (Mike) of Bath; two brothers: Clarence “Buddy” Everett (Kathy) of Washington and Larry Everett (Dennie) of Washington; seven sisters: Faye Waters (Ernest) of Pinetown, Virginia Cox (Jimmy) of Washington, Frances Adams of Belhaven, Audrey Mason (David) of Bath, Ellen Brock (Perry) of Fayetteville, Judy Daughtridge (Tommy) of Bath and Betty Ange (Dempsy) of Belhaven; eleven grandchildren: Tracy Durst, Stacy Martinez, Brandy Heath, J.L. Koonce, Debbie Nicholson, Garry Koonce Jr., Andy Koonce, Keri Koonce, Michael Jarvis, Kevin Jarvis and Jeremy Jarvis; fifteen great-grandchildren and a special longtime caregiver: Victoria Buchanan of Chocowinity. Mrs. Koonce was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She was also preceded in death by a son: Toney Collins Koonce and two brothers: James Franklin Everett and James Bradford Everett and a brother-in-law: Fountain Adams.
