JIMMY HARRIS SR.

Mr. Jimmy Lee Harris Sr., age 70, a resident of 2233 Old New Bern Road, Chocowinity, died Friday, April 29, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, May 2, 2016 at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Chocowinity, conducted by Pastor Joe Ange. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Glenn Harris, Wayne Harris, Jeffrey Woolard, Nick Woolard, Brandon McCarter and David Branch Jr.

Jimmy was born in Washington on February 17, 1946. He was the son of the late Leroy Harris and Katherine Jenkins Harris. Jimmy worked as a PBX repairman for Carolina Telephone & Telegraph for 35 years during which he also built a successful business, Harris Electronics.

After his retirement from CT&T, he continued to expand Harris Electronics into a successful business with his son, Jimmy Harris Jr. Jimmy was a member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church where he served for most of his adult life in many leadership roles over the years, including deacon, board member and Sunday School teacher.

On June 26, 1965, Jimmy married the love of his life, the former Mary “Louise” Clark, who survives. Their marriage lasted over 50 years and was filled with love… a love of God, a love of family and a love of serving others.

In addition to his wife, Louise, Jimmy is survived by his children, Jimmy Harris Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Washington, Dr. Rachel McCarter and husband, Brandon of Fredericksburg, Va., and Becky Avery and husband, David Branch Jr. of Chocowinity.

He also leaves behind his eight beloved grandchildren, Ashley and Ragan Harris, Cody and Colton Respess, Gavin and Colby McCarter, Sloan and Tori Avery. Also surviving is his brother, Glenn Harris of Grimesland and a sister, Kathy Woolard and husband, Jeffrey of Washington.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Perry and a nephew, Harvey Perry Jr. of Stokes.

The family received friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at his home.
