CHRISTINE WILLIAMS

CHRISTINE WILLIAMS

Mrs. Christine Hodges Williams, age 91, a lifelong resident of Hyde County, North Carolina, entered her heavenly home on May 10, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, May 14th at Scranton Christian Church, followed by a graveside service at Mount Olive Church of Christ cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven from 6pm-8pm on Friday, May 13, 2016, and other times at the home of her son, Olian R. Williams Jr., 1150 Puddin Hill Road, Scranton.

Mrs. Christine was born on February 15, 1925, on Rose Bay, the daughter of the late Walter Poole Hodges and Cora Sadler Hodges. She attended Swan Quarter High School where she was on the girls’ basketball team and later became the girls’ basketball coach.  After high school, she worked in Norfolk, Virginia at the Norfolk Navel Base to support the WWII war effort. On September 25, 1943, she married Olian Riggs Williams Sr. who preceded her in death on July 19, 2010. She was a lifelong member of the Scranton Christian Church where she was known for her talent as an accomplished pianist and organist for 63 years. She worked for many years in the Hyde County Tax Office and developed many friendships while working there. Survivors include her son, Olian R. Williams Jr. and his wife, Eunice Keech Williams of Scranton, her son Michael’s wife Annette Williams of Scranton, four grandchildren: Micole Izaguirre (husband Rey) of Scranton, Michael R. Williams Jr. of Scranton, Brianna Williams (husband John Hagen III) of Greenville, and Olian R. Williams III (Tre’) of Scranton and 5 great-grandchildren: River, Annalee, Alex Michael, Brandt and Hurley. The family would like to thank Ms. Joyce Russell, Christine’s lifelong friend and personal caretaker. She has been a true angel to the entire Williams family. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, an infant brother, Roswell Hodges, her sister, Olive Lee Hodges (9 years old), her son, Michael R. Williams Sr., and a granddaughter, Christy Le-Ann Williams.

“Miss Christine,” “Tine,” or “Crissy,” as so many people affectionately called her, was loved by all who entered her presence. She was an amazing southern cook, she had a devout love for Eskimo Spitz puppy dogs, Coca Cola, Juicy Fruit gum, and dressing in elaborate attire including large brimmed hats (which she was known for) and accessories. The love of her life was “her two boys: Michael and Olian Jr.,” and she exemplified all of the characteristics of a loving and encouraging mother throughout their lives. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Cross Creek Health Care for giving her the best care possible in her final years as well as the late Dr. Charles Boyette for his devotion and attention to her health care needs.

Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be sent to Scranton Christian Church, c/o Lynn Modlin, P.O. Box 192, Swan Quarter, N.C. 27885, or Pungo Medical Center, P.O. Box 453, Belhaven, N.C. 27810.
