Mr. Larry Alan Weston, age 86, a resident of Washington, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice of Greenville, N.C.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church and will be conducted by Reverends Danny Allen and Patrick Keely. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Richard Gerard III, Joe Shrader, Freddie Matkins, Rusty Roberson, Keith Liaros and Churchill Hodges will serve as pallbearers. Phil Martin and Richard Gerard Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Weston was born December 7, 1929 in Hazelton, Iowa to the late Leslie Oliver Weston and Gladys Harrington Weston. On June 24, 1952, he married the former Belva Ruth Quidley, who survives. They were married in First United Methodist Church, the same church where they would later renew their vows in honor of their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Mr. Weston worked for many years as a mechanic at Piston Ring and later owned his own business. He was a long time member of Old Ford Church of Christ.
Mr. Weston was a devoted husband and father, and always put his family first and foremost in his life.
Besides family, he loved traveling with his wife for many years. Some of his favorite sites included Yellowstone Park, Alaska, Maine and the Dakotas. He loved sharing his stories with everyone.
In addition to his wife, survivors include six children, Al Weston and wife Carol of Greenville, Vickie Buckman and husband Buck, Butch Weston and wife Laurie, Valerie Whitehead and husband Doug, all of Washington, Sherrie Odom and husband Mike of Greenville, Renee Regeis and husband Chris of Greensboro, thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Cheryl Stoddard of San Antonio, TX, and Vonnie Copp of West Union, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Richard Weston, Russell Weston, Lyle Weston and a sister Lynell Crane.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm Tuesday, May 17, 2016, in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church. For all other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Vickie and Buck Buckman of 39 Harbor Road, Washington.
