The National Hurricane Center is monitoring weather in the Atlantic Ocean northeast of the Bahamas.
The area of cloudiness and showers is expected to become “more conducive for tropical or subtropical development” on Friday or Saturday, according to a Wednesday night tropical weather outlook issued by the NHC.
The disturbed weather will approach the southeastern U.S. this weekend, according to the forecast.
The NHC predicts a formation chance of medium, or 60 percent, over the next five days.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30.
