CHOCOWINITY — Pancakes, sausage and gently used yard sale items are up for sale this weekend during events benefiting Chocowinity EMS.

Friday’s pancake supper kicks off at 5 p.m. at the Chocowinity Fire and EMS department, located on Highway 33 east of town. Freshly prepared pancakes along with sausages, iced tea and soft drinks will be available for a donation at the door, according to EMS Capt. Shane Grier. A dining area will be open on site during the supper, or patrons may take their plates home.

A sneak peek preview of the next day’s yard sale will also be offered Friday evening, Grier said.

“We’ll be set up for Saturday’s sale during the pancake supper so anyone who comes out will get first dibs on the yard sale items,” he said.

Vendor spaces are being sold for Saturday’s yard sale. For $25, vendors have access to tables to sell their own new or used merchandise. The yard sale itself opens to the public at 7 a.m.

Proceeds from both the pancake supper and the yard sale will assist Chocowinity EMS in providing the best services possible to the community, Grier said.

“We’re using this money so we don’t have to use tax money,” he said. “One hundred percent of the tax money we receive from the county goes for expenses on the 911 ambulance, so we have to raise enough money to keep a second truck up and running. We do that by having fundraisers and benefits such as pancake suppers and yard sales. We have to do that to survive and to enhance our capabilities in 911 services.”

Chocowinity EMS is accepting yard sale donations through the rest of this week, according to Grier. Items collected thus far include toys, clothing, books, furniture, exercise equipment, holiday decorations, books, artwork, craft supplies, dishes, lamps and home accessories.

Items may be dropped off at the department. For more information, call 252-948-2446.
