The Beaufort County Traditional Music Association will host an exciting variety show at the Turnage Theatre gallery on Saturday night. The free show features some very outstanding guitarists and begins at 7 p.m.

Performers for the June variety show include Holly and Dale Brantley and the trio 8:27. Holly and Dale are daughter and father musicians who both enjoy the dynamic sound of acoustic guitar. They play rock and country classics, as well as original songs about growing up in the county with hound dogs, dirt roads and “first loves.” Holly is a junior at North Carolina State University.

8:27 is comprised of Wayne Stoeckert on guitar/vocals, Butch Adams on bass/vocals and Wes Toler on drums/vocals. The band draws material from several genres such as contemporary blues, classic rock and alternative country. This energetic trio prides itself on tight musical and vocal harmony arrangements. These musicians help make the monthly BCTMA Variety Show a very popular event at the Turnage.

Other BCTMA activities include a BCTMA Showcase held on the last Tuesday of the month at the Grace Martin Harwell Senior Center in Washington from 2-4 p.m. This free showcase features guest musicians playing country, classic rock and traditional music. The center is located at 103 W. Main St. in Washington, and everyone over 55 years of age is invited to attend and enjoy the music.

The Beaufort County Traditional Music Association also sponsors fun, informal jam sessions for traditional musicians regardless of skill level on Thursdays, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday mornings, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Turnage Theatre gallery in downtown Washington. Admission is free. Traditional music fans and musicians are invited to come and play and enjoy the music. Visitors, newcomers and young folks are especially welcome to join the fun.
