From the Olson Memorial Scholarship committee

Conner Dean Sawyer, a Washington High School senior, has received the Patrick Brian Olson Memorial Scholarship. The 2016 scholarship will provide $2,000 toward Sawyer’s academic expenses.

Sawyer, a member of the National Honor Society, received the scholarship based on his academic achievement and involvement in school and community activities. He is the son of Sport and Susan Sawyer of Washington and plans to continue his education in trust and wealth management at Campbell University.

The scholarship, awarded annually since 1992, honors the memory of U.S. Air Force Captain Patrick Olson. Olson was a 1983 graduate of Washington High School and a 1987 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. In February 1991, he became a casualty of the Persian Gulf War serving the country and flag of which he was so fiercely proud. His family, friends and community continue to contribute to the scholarship fund.
