CMS holds Awards Day, Moving Up ceremony

Chocowinity Middle School held its Awards Day and Moving Up programs on June 8 to recognize achievements of its students. The Awards Day ceremony was held to award students in fifth through eighth grades for their accomplishments.

The Little Washington Sailing School presented a special award. The school held an essay contest for students to earn a scholarship to the summer sailing classes. The two students chosen to receive the award were Hunter Leary and Joanna Harris.
The student awards ended with plaques being given to the students with the highest overall average in each grade. Those students were Caleb Dixon, fifth grade; Patrick Tyler, sixth grade; and Sarah Petty, seventh grade.
The final event of the afternoon was the presentation of the Teacher of the Year award to Sandy Sadler, seventh-grade math teacher.
The Moving Up ceremony was that evening to celebrate the achievements of the eighth-graders at CMS. Chocowinity Middle School promoted 106 eighth-graders to ninth grade. The Woodmen of the World award was presented to the student with the highest average in eighth-grade social studies: Tanner Rouse.
The final award presented before the Moving Up certificates was the highest average plaque presented to Adrianna DeMercurio.
