The Vidant Beaufort Hospital Volunteer Department recently awarded scholarships totaling $5,700 to 11 local students for their service to the hospital. To be eligible for the scholarship, the student must serve as a volunteer at the hospital for at least three summers and work at least 34 hours each summer.

During the summer months, Vidant Beaufort Hospital is supported by a group of junior volunteers. These dedicated students provide a great service to the hospital and patients, as well as get a first-hand look at the health care industry. They do anything from discharging patients, delivering various items throughout the hospital, to certain clerical duties.

 

This year’s scholarship recipients are:

1. Kendall Alligood, daughter of Joseph Alligood and the late Linda Alligood, graduated from Northside High School. Kendall plans to study business at UNC-Charlotte.

2. Katherine Blandford, daughter of Crystal Bateman and James Blandford, graduated from Beaufort County Early College High School. Katherine plans to study kinesiology/exercise science at UNC-Chapel Hill.

3. Weston Brown, son of Casey and Scott Brown, graduated from Washington High School. Weston plans to study mechanical engineering at UNC-Charlotte.

4. Kayla Dickerson, daughter of Tracey and Kent Dickerson, graduated from Bear Grass Charter School. Kayla plans to study human development and family studies at UNC-Greensboro.

5. Kara Hall, daughter of Paula and David Hall, graduated from Washington High School. Kara plans to earn her associate degree at Beaufort County Community College and then study elementary education.

6. Erin Lewis, daughter of Aaron and Angela Lewis, graduated from Washington High School. Erin plans to study political science at UNC-Chapel Hill.

7. Holt McKeithan, son of Robin and Ray McKeithan, graduated from Washington High School. Holt plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill.

8. Kaleb Spencer, son of Kevin and Dana Spencer, graduated from Washington High School. Kaleb plans to study nutrition science at East Carolina University.

9. Madison Tyer, daughter of Amanda Woolard, graduated from Northside High School. Madison plans to attend East Carolina University and become a physician’s assistant.

10. Kathryn Wescott, daughter of William and Ginger Wescott, graduated from Washington High School. Kathryn plans to study biology at Meredith College.

11. Keegan Wiggins, daughter of Tricia and Jeff Wiggins, graduated from Southside High School. Keegan plans to study journalism and computer science at Western Carolina University.
