JAMESVILLE — The first inning wasn’t close to over when Bath’s 14U all-star team effectively sealed a win over Edenton on Monday evening. The boys had nine hits — five of which went for extra bases — in an 11-run first inning.

The game was over before the frame came to a close. Most everything that Bath hit found a gap. After jumping out to an 11-0 lead in the first, Bath was able to cruise to a dominant 25-4 win in just three innings.

Tyler Modlin got the party started with a leadoff single to the gap in right centerfield. Logan Hale and Douglas Dixon followed with consecutive RBI doubles — both also in gaps in the outfield.

The Bath all stars got increasingly comfortable at the plate. They took a 3-0 lead with no outs after Matthew Adams’ RBI base hit. Cameron Craig pushed across a pair with a backside double to the corner of left field. Modlin and Hale collected their second hits of the frame to plate three more runs between the two of them.

Dixon rounded out the scoring with a triple to centerfield that became an inside-the-park homer. He made his way around to third and a bad throw out of bounds allowed him to come home.

Edenton faced an overwhelming deficit well before its first chance to bat. It got a base knock from its leadoff batter, but Bath quickly retired the next three batters.

The first inning proved to be a sign of things to come as Bath notched 11 more hits to score another dozen runs. The all stars continued to have the offense pour in from the entire lineup. Ryan Woolard, Carter Boyd, Mason Weaver, Nate Vans, Modlin, Hale and Robert Pollock all had hits in the explosive second frame. Bath batted through the lineup and Boyd and Woolard were able to notch multiple hits in one inning.

Bath’s power at the plate continued in the second. Pollock highlighted the dominant showing with a three-run homer over the fence in left field.

“I saw it coming at me,” Pollock said. “It looked like a beach ball so I just swung.”

Robert Pollock is saluted by his teammates in the form of a helmet tap. He crushed a ball over the left-field fence for a three-run homer in the second inning of Monday’s game.

Edenton was able to squeak across four runs and Bath added two more in the top of the third. Coach Doug Dixon is hoping that the team didn’t exhaust all of its hitting power before Tuesday’s game. Instead, he’s expecting Monday’s effort to be a launching pad of sorts.

“Hopefully we got some momentum,” he said. “We had a long break between the regular season and coming here. I think we’re getting it back.”
